To mark the centenary of the end of the Great War, the RSE and the RSE Young Academy of Scotland are hosting a week of activities at the RSE.
Between 5 and 12 November, there will be a free public exhibition in the RSE Reception, exploring nursing during WW1 and highlighting the involvement of RSE Fellows and Staff in the Great War.
The exhibition will be open 8.30 am–5.30 pm Monday to Friday; 10 am–4 pm on Saturday; and 1 pm–4 pm on Sunday. The exhibition is free and open to the public and does not require pre-booking.
On Monday 5 November at 6 pm, Professor Duncan Macmillan FRSE, Trevor Royle FRSE and Major General Mark Strudwick CBE KStJ will share their thoughts on how Scotland commemorates the fallen of the First World War and will reflect on the meaning of remembrance at a public lecture – Lest we forget: Commemorating the Fallen of the Great War. A storytelling session with Dr Diane Atkinson, who authored the book Elsie and Mairi Go to War and nursing historian Dr Alison O’Donnell, will be held at the RSE on Friday 9 November at 6 pm. This event is free to attend, but booking is required. Click here to book.
