The RSE has submitted an Advice Paper to the Scottish Parliament’s Education and Skills Committee. It is hoped that the report will serve to inform the Committee’s scrutiny of the performance and strategy of the Scottish Funding Council. The Education and Skills Committee is looking at the SFC as part of its pre-Budget 2017/18 scrutiny.
The response expresses concern over the erosion of the SFC’s arms-length relationship with the Scottish Government, while also recommending that the SFC should adopt a strategic role through prioritising and facilitating the conditions for the provision of world-leading research.
