Fellows are an enormous repository of knowledge, expertise and experience and the RSE’s mission is to use this resource for public benefit in Scotland and more widely. We need as many of our Fellows as possible to participate in our work, whether by joining committees, being available to serve on short term working groups or offering other services and help to the society.

Opportunities for Involvement

How Can You help?

Fellows are encouraged to provide us with details of activities they would be willing to be involved in, or support they are able to offer to RSE activities. This information can be provided online here (please scroll down to the ‘Services Offered’ section. You will be required to log in to access this page).

Alternatively, you are welcome to email the Fellowship Services Manager with this information.

Committee Membership

Many RSE activities are lead by a committee of Fellows (and sometimes non-Fellows), who give up their time voluntarily.

On occasion we will put out a call to Fellows requesting volunteers to join a particular committee.  When available, specific opportunities available to Fellows, or requests for Fellows’ involvement, will be advertised on this page.

There are no specific requests at this time, but Fellows are welcome to indicate their interest in a committee by informing the Fellowship Services Manager.

Policy and Advice

Drawing on the expertise of our Fellows, the RSE provides independent evidence and advice to inform public policy decisions and legislative direction. Our contributions support decision makers in the Scottish and UK parliaments, Scottish and UK governments, and in the Civil Service.  We could not undertake this valuable work without the input of our Fellows.

Specific calls for expertise will be advertised here.

There are no specific requests at this time, but Fellows are welcome to indicate their willingness to contribute to policy and advice work, with details of the subjects they could provide expertise on, to the Policy Advice Unit.
