Directeur de Recherche Emérite CNRS, Institut de Biologie Structurale .
Dr Giuseppe Zaccai is a distinguished physicist who has been an internationally leading pioneer of the application of neutron-scattering techniques to the structural and dynamic characterisation of biological systems. After earning BSc (1968) and PhD (1972) degrees in physics from the University of Edinburgh, Giuseppe’s research career in biophysics has been spent mainly at the European Photon Neutron campus in Grenoble, where he has obtained fundamental results on structure, dynamics and interactions of biological membranes and macromolecular complexes. He has been Directeur de Recherche Emérite CNRS at Institut de Biologie Structurale since 2013. Giuseppe was awarded the 2013 Walter Hälg Prize of the European Neutron Scattering Society for his pioneering contributions to neutron scattering for biology.
