Dr Gordon Rintoul has been Director of National Museums Scotland since 2002. During a thirty-year career in the museums sector, he has led a range of significant initiatives and award-winning projects including developing new museums in Bradford, Merseyside and Sheffield. After returning to Scotland, he has led the development of the National Museum of Scotland, enhancing the focus of collections research and introducing innovative programmes of public engagement. As a result, the National Museum of Scotland is now the most visited UK museum outside London. Gordon received a CBE for Services to Museums in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2012 and has honorary degrees form the Universities of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Napier.
