Join us at Waterstone’s, Inverness for a public event celebrating the launch of award-winning author Elizabeth Laird’s Song of the Dolphin Boy.
Song of the Dolphin Boy is a magical story of friendship, adventure and the importance of looking after our oceans. Finn, a young boy living in the fishing village of Stromhead feels very at home swimming with the local dolphins… but his aquatic friends are in danger of being injured by the rubbish floating in the water.
Song of the Dolphin Boy was inspired by an underwater documentary-maker friend of Elizabeth’s, who confessed his worries to her about the state of our oceans following a trip to film marine wildlife in Borneo. Elizabeth was, of course, inspired to write about this, to help in some way by educating her young readers on the importance of looking after our oceans. Elizabeth worked closely with the Aberdeen University Lighthouse Field Station in Cromarty while writing the novel, learning about plastic in the ocean and dolphin behaviours.
At this RSE@ Inverness event, Elizabeth Laird will be joined by zoologist Dr Lucy Quinn who recently worked on the BBC’s Blue Planet II series, for book readings, conversation and discussion.
