Response to Scottish Parliament Finance and Constitution Committee Inquiry

The RSE has responded to the Scottish Parliament’s Finance and Constitution Committee inquiry on the Funding of EU Competences after Brexit.

The response provides a background to the current EU funding arrangements, focusing on the Common Agricultural Policy and structural funds, recognising that the level of funding in these areas will be maintained through new UK alternatives after Brexit. Analysing the possible alternatives the RSE concludes that agricultural support post-Brexit is likely to be outwith the Barnett Formula and that a UK cohesion policy should be narrowly targeted based on needs.
