The RSE has responded to the Scottish Government’s proposed actions within their Healthier Future Strategy. Presenting general comments on the overall strategy the paper goes on to answer each question in the consultation.
The RSE strongly support public health interventions from the Scottish Government, however there are concerns and recommendations that should be considered in developing the final strategy. The Society recommends that the final strategy should not default to tackling obesity but rather focus on promoting healthy diet and activity, include stronger interventions from the bottom up, and should help develop skills and understanding. In addition, the RSE believes that it would be useful for the Scottish Government to present detailed information on what can be done under the current devolution settlement.
