Royal Medal

Awarded annually to individuals who have achieved distinction and are of international repute in any of the following categories: Life Sciences; Physical and Engineering Sciences; Humanities and Social Sciences; Business and Commerce. Candidates need not be RSE Fellows and should, preferably, have a Scottish connection irrespective of place of domicile.

RSE Prizes, Prize Lectureships and other Medals

The following Prizes will be awarded in Session 2008-2009.  The closing date for the RSE Prizes, Prize Lectureships and other Medals is 30 January 2009. (10 November 2008 for CRF Prize Lectureship)

CRF Prize Lectureship in Arts & Letters (£1500)
Awarded in alternate years between Biomedical Sciences and Arts & Letters. Prize Lecturers are expected to be of the highest international repute, with no restriction on nationality. There is also no geographical restriction on the domicile of the Prize Lecturer in Arts & Letters. The Prize Lecture is normally given at a number of locations in Scotland. Past recipients include:- Joan Bakewell, Baroness O’Neill of Bengarve and Sir Roy Strong . Closing date is 10 November 2008. Click here to download nomination form
David Anderson Berry Medal

Awarded quinquennially for recent work on the effects of X-rays and other forms of radiation on living tissues. Published work is taken into consideration if submitted to the Society with the application. Past recipients include:- Professors Julia Denekamp and Eric Wright.

Bruce Preller Prize Lectureship (£500)

This Biennial Prize Lecture is awarded sequentially in Earth Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Medical Sciences and Biological Sciences. The award in 08/09 is to be made to an outstanding scientist in the field of Biological Sciences. Past recipients include:- Sir David Lane, Sir Keith O’Nions FRS, Professors Adrian Bird and Jason Reese.

Henry Duncan Prize Lectureship (£500)

Awarded triennially to a scholar of any nationality for work of international repute in Scottish Studies. Past recipients include:- Professors Duncan Macmillan, David McCrone and Alexander Broadie.
