To comply with the terms of the Auber Bequest applicants should: |
| |
| (a) |
be naturalised British citizens or desire to acquire British nationality (applicants cannot be British at birth to be eligible to apply); |
| (b) |
be over sixty years of age; |
| (c) |
reside in Scotland or England; |
| (d) |
be bona fide scholars engaged in academic research (but not industrial research). |
|
| 2. |
The Awards are open to all nationalities provided applicants had to apply for British citizenship. Applicants from the Commonwealth must not at birth have had dual nationality. |
| 3. |
As the funds available are limited the Awards will be assessed on a competitive basis. The decision by Council whether to make an Award and to establish its level will be absolute and final. |
| 4. |
The Awards will be for a period of not more than two years and will not normally exceed £3000 in total. In exceptional circumstances applicants who have recently arrived in the United Kingdom may be considered for an Award of greater value to assist them in re-establishing their research activities. Depending on the actual level and period of the Award, this may be paid on a quarterly or half-yearly basis. |
| 5. |
Where an Award has been made for a period of more than one year, a brief progress report, normally one A4 page in length, should be submitted before the end of the first year. A final report, not more than four pages of A4, and including details of papers or other material submitted for publication (but not copies of these) and summary accounts showing how the funding was spent, should be submitted to the Research Awards Manager at the end of the two years. |
| 6. |
A statement, not exceeding one page of A4, expanding on the synopsis of the proposed research may be submitted with the application form. |
| 7. |
Completed application forms should be returned to The Research Awards Manager, The Royal Society of Edinburgh, 22-26 George Street, Edinburgh, EH2 2PQ, Scotland, UK, no later than Friday 22 January 2009. |
