International Programme / Links with Overseas Academies / Chinese Academy of Sciences
The Chinese Academy of Sciences
Founded in Beijing on 1st November 1949 on the basis of the former Academia Sinica (Central Academy of Sciences) and Peiping Academy of Sciences
The Royal Society of Edinburgh signed an agreement with the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shanghai in March 2002. Researchers from Scotland can collaborate with researchers in the CAS institutes under the auspices of the bilateral exchange programme
To encourage further collaborations on this programme, a delegation travelled to Beijing on behalf of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in March 2004. Topics covered included:
- Botany
- Plant genetics
- Optoelectronics
- Nutrition and Human health (especially with respect to diabetes)
- Nanotechnology
- Science Policy
- Public Understanding of Science
