Inquiries / Facing Up to Climate Change / Schools' Competition

Looking for ideas to help in the delivery of Curriculum for Excellence in your school?
The Royal Society of Edinburgh’s competition has one answer and there are prizes of £5000 in total!
Pupils in Primary and in Secondary schools are invited to enhance their experience of sustainable development, global citizenship and international understanding through a study of how Climate Change will affect the lives of people in their own local areas.
This exciting, topical and relevant competition encourages pupils to study how people will face up to both the opportunities offered and the challenges caused by Climate Change in Scotland.
They can also liaise with or research a Developing World country where the impact of Climate Change is already affecting peoples’ lives and livelihoods either for comparison or to identify their knock-on effects for the people of Scotland.
The research and presentation required for this competition allows pupils to develop in all four capacities of The Curriculum for Excellence.
The competition supported by former weather forecaster, Heather Reid, was launched at a media event held at the Royal Society of Edinburgh on 8 February 2010.
Who can enter?
Groups of no more than 4 pupils can submit an entry, but schools may submit more than one entry.
What are the prizes?
Overall winning group, Primary £1000
Overall winning group, Secondary £1000
£500 for regional winning groups at Primary and at Secondary in each of three regions namely north, central and south Scotland.
