These Scholarships arise from a bequest from the late Professor John Moyes Lessells, an eminent mechanical engineer who emigrated to the United States of America in 1920. The Scholarships are for Honours Graduates in all forms of Engineering from Scottish Universities, who wish to study some aspect of their profession outwith the UK.
Recipients of the Scholarships must indicate that they intend returning to the UK after their period of study overseas. Scholarships maybe awarded for a periods from one week to one year, although generally periods of between two and five months are preferred. Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact the relevant staff member at the Royal Society of Edinburgh to discuss particular aspects of their application and its potential suitability for funding under the terms and priorities of the Lessell’s bequest.
